Our History

Guernsey Sands was originally established in 1978 and revived in 2011.

In 2010 Tania Shires, who lost her first child through stillbirth, was approached and asked to consider providing support to local families who were affected by similar losses. There had been no local support available when her son died so she decided to revive the Guernsey Sands group.

The initial focus was on providing local support including home visits, as well as telephone support and running support meetings. A lot of time was also spent developing a relationship with the Loveridge and Frossard Wards of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey.

In 2014 Guernsey Sands became a registered Guernsey charity and established a committee to take the charity forward.
