Guernsey Sands donates cuddle cot to hospital

Guernsey Sands has donated a cuddle cot to help to comfort bereaved parents to the Loveridge ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

In the rare event of a stillborn baby or neonatal death, the main purpose of a cuddle cot is to give parents more time to be with their baby. It enables a last opportunity to create lasting memories, make important decisions regarding their baby without feeling pressured in any way and arrange for family and friends to meet their baby.

Guernsey Sands chair Tania Shires said the cuddle cot, which will be used by parents and families as may be required, was donated thanks to the generous support of the charity:

“It’s so important for families to have the choice to spend time with their babies. It’s an opportunity for them to gather memories that will be with them for a lifetime. The cuddle cot means they can spend longer with their babies, and we hope that for some Guernsey families this donation will give them more precious memories to treasure.”

Lisa Stephens, Acting Head of Midwifery at the Health and Social Services Department, accepted the donation from Guernsey Sands, on behalf of the department. Lisa Stephens said:

“HSSD is grateful to Guernsey Sands charity for its donation of a cuddle cot. It will help the quality of care available for families in what is an extremely difficult time.”
